Orientation & Mobility Instructor
Lavelle is seeking an Orientation & Mobility Instructor who will be responsible for teaching students who are blind/visually impaired and with multiple disabilities to travel as independently, safely, and efficiently as possible in any environment. They provide direct instruction that includes classroom orientation, school and neighborhood travel, cane techniques, travel options and experiences, transition and technology when appropriate. The Orientation & Mobility Instructor evaluates travel skills, plans and provides individualized O & M programs while positively motivating students to develop appropriate skills, attitudes, and knowledge; utilizes a variety of instructional techniques appropriate to students’ abilities; and creates a safe and orderly learning environment. This is a union position. Candidates should have experience working in a school/pediatric setting with students with special needs including students with blindness/visual impairment and multiple disabilities.
