Employment

Lavelle School for the Blind offers a wide range of employment opportunities for qualified applicants. Our staff is creative, caring, compassionate, and competent. The school has well-equipped, spacious classrooms and treatment areas. We are fortunate to have 3 large outdoor playgrounds since the school occupies an entire city block in the Northeast Bronx. Commuting to the school is convenient by car or subway. Our salaries are competitive, benefits are excellent, and we offer a generous tuition reimbursement program. We maintain an on-going file for qualified program personnel in the following areas:

Classroom teachers with New York State Education Department certification as teacher of the blind and visually impaired (full time and substitutes). Teacher applicants for the preschool program also need N-6 certification.
Teaching assistants and teachers’ aides with bilingual Spanish/English skills preferred
Physical and occupational therapists and assistants
Orientation and mobility specialists
Job coaches
Social workers
Nurse substitutes
Speech and language therapists with bilingual Spanish/English extension preferred
Adaptive physical education teachers
Music and art teachers
Psychologists and education evaluators on a contract basis only.
